Manilva, the beautiful white village

Manilva is a municipality in the southwest of the Spanish province of Málaga, on the outskirts of Cádiz. This beautiful white village is located in Andalusia. Manilva is situated in a beautiful and natural landscape. To the east it is bordered by the Manilva River and surrounded by vineyards. The winemakers produce sweet wines that are well known locally. The municipality lives off agriculture, fishing and since some years of tourism. Famous places such as San Luis de Sabinillas, Puerto de la Duquesa and Estepona are a few minutes’ drive away. The distance to Málaga is approximately 97 kilometers.

The origin of Manilva

The city of Manilva was founded in the sixteenth century. A piece of the neighboring neighborhood of Casares, became independent in 1795 and has since been further developed. For a long time, the most important income came from fishing, agribusiness and viticulture. The vineyards are best known for their moscatel grapes, which are used for the production of raisins and fine wines. Since the manufacture of the marina and the fairway in the 1970s, tourism in Manilva has increased. Manilva is now one of the most quickly built-up areas of the Costa del Sol. At the moment the municipality currently has around 17,000 permanent residents. In addition, there are approximately 14,000 people living temporarily or with a holiday home.

The climate

Manilva has a Mediterranean climate. The summer months are therefore hot and dry, in the winter months the temperatures are pleasantly soft. The best travel time for Manilva is from May to October. During these months you have pleasant or warm temperatures, and little or no rainfall. The highest average temperature is 30⁰C in August. The lowest average temperature is 14⁰C in January. Sights and attractions

• Grape Harvest Festival. This festival is held on the first weekend of September and coincides with the end of the grape harvest. Villagers gather on the streets to witness the grape stomping. They can then taste the first wine of the season.
• Full moon festival. This festival is relatively new and has been celebrated every summer since 2012 during the full moon of July or August. During the celebration people come dressed in white to the beach of Sabinillas. During the festival there are various activities for young and old. The long-awaited moment is when wishing balloons with candles go up in the air. This magically illuminates the sea.
• Doña Julia golf. This golf course has 18 holes and is suitable for every level. The golf course is situated in a natural environment and has fantastic sea views. The greens are large and of high quality. The ideal place for the golf enthusiast!
• Colonia beach. Playa de la Colonia is located between the marina of La Duquesa and Playa de Sabinillas. The large playground makes it an ideal beach to go with small children.
