On the Costa del Sol lies the picturesque municipality of Mijas in the region of Andalusia. - Mijas Pueblo: The town of Mijas Pueblo is known for its white houses and donkey taxis. It is a traditional Andalusian mountain town built at an altitude of 428 metres, giving you spectacular views of mountains, the sea and surrounding nature.
- Plaza de Toros Mijas: a traditional bullring built in 1900. The ring is characterised by its round shape and white with red paint.
- Santuario de la Virgen de la Peña (The Shrine of the Virgin of the Rock): The chapel was carved out of a ridge by the monk Diego de Jesus Maria y San Pablo in 1548. This happened after he found an image in the rock that told him to build the chapel. This chapel is still used for celebrations, then the whole village gathers around it.
- Vineyards: the Mijas area has many vineyards. The pleasant climate makes it the perfect place for wine grapes to grow. A day trip is definitely recommended, this way you get to see more of the area and nature too!
Beaches and Nature
The municipality’s location means you can enjoy both the beach and mountain nature. There are several parks and beaches worth a visit:
- Parque La Muralla: Due to the high location of this park, you will enjoy the best views. The park is equipped with beautiful flowers and plants and plenty of spots to sit and possibly have a picnic.
- Playa de la Cala: Beautiful white beach with blue waters and a promenade equipped with the nicest restaurants and bars.
- Playa de Calahonda: A long beach with a long promenade between Marbella, Mijas and Puerto Cabopino.
- Playa El Bombo: Nice clean beach with toilets, showers, bars and restaurants to unwind.
Golf Courses
Something that naturally cannot be missed in this area are the various golf resorts.
- Santana Golf: This golf and country club consists of 18-holes. Strategically located just 25 minutes from Málaga airport. Enjoy a drink and a day of golf.
- La Cala Golf: This club is located in a resort with 4-star hotel and spa. It is the most active club in the Costa del Sol with weekly competitions. Highly recommended for the active golfer who also wants to enjoy the luxury of a resort.
- Calanova Golf Club: this club is just 5 minutes from the sea and consists of 18 holes. Suitable for beginners and advanced players.
